If you have already heard about Annapurna Base Camp, you might be surprised to learn that there is another side of the mountain—quieter, wilder, and far less visited.
The Annapurna North Base Camp Trek takes you to the northern face of Annapurna I (8,091 m), following the historic Maurice Herzog Trail through waterfalls, alpine meadows, sacred glacial lakes, and remote mountain landscapes that most trekkers never get to see.
Unlike the crowded trekking routes of Nepal, this adventure feels personal. The trail passes through seasonal herders' settlements, peaceful forests, and high mountain terrain before reaching Panchakunda and the breathtaking viewpoint below the immense north face of Annapurna I.
This is a trek for travelers who want more than just a destination. It is for those who want space, silence, authentic mountain culture, and a genuine Himalayan experience.
Few trekking routes in Nepal bring you this close to the massive northern wall of Annapurna I. The mountain rises dramatically above the valley, creating one of the most impressive alpine landscapes in the Himalayas.
At over 4,000 meters, Panchakunda is a collection of beautiful glacial lakes surrounded by towering peaks and high mountain wilderness. The lakes hold cultural and spiritual significance for local communities and are one of the highlights of the trek.
This route traces part of the approach used during the legendary 1950 French Annapurna Expedition, which achieved the world's first successful ascent of an 8,000-meter peak.
While thousands of trekkers visit the classic Annapurna Base Camp each year, North ABC remains one of Nepal's least explored trekking destinations.
Stay in simple mountain tea houses and traditional goths, share stories with local hosts, and experience the warmth of the Himalayan communities who call this region home.
Throughout the trek, weather permitting, you may enjoy views of:
✅ Annapurna I (8,091 m)
✅ Nilgiri North
✅ Nilgiri Central
✅ Tilicho Peak
✅ Annapurna South
✅ Hiunchuli
Accommodation on this route is simple, authentic, and locally operated.
