Your trekking into the mystical landscapes of the Jomsom Muktinath trails in Nepal begins with a scenic drive or flight from Pokhara to Jomsom—gateway to the Forbidden Buddhist kingdom of Mustang. The refreshing mountain air greets you as you begin your walk through windswept valleys, ancient monasteries, and vibrant Tibetan-influenced villages.
Compared to the high-altitude challenges of Upper Mustang, the Jomsom Muktinath trek is perfect for those seeking moderate Himalayan adventure with rich cultural experience. From the sacred town of Kagbeni, where the Kaligandaki River flows through the arid landscape Mustang, to the Muktinath Temple at an altitude of 3810m and the apple orchards of Marpha, every stop along the way tells a story to leave you in awe.
Expect to wander through centuries-old monasteries and experience the daily lives of the Thakali and Tibetan communities. As the sky turns blue you will be rewarded with dramatic views of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and the Annapurna range—without the extreme altitude.
Whether you are looking for a shorter Himalayan trek, cultural depth, or a scenic escape off the beaten path, Jomsom Muktinath trekking in Nepal offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the rain-shadow region of Nepal. Best of all? Thanks to its dry alpine climate, this trek is accessible even during the monsoon months. Book your adventure now and walk through myths turned reality!

Welcome to Pokhara, the land of adventures and the gateway to Jomsom and Upper Mustang! Upon arrival in the Pokhara airport you will be greeted by our trusty representative and will escort you to the hotel in the serene Lakeside. Take a stroll around the streets of Lakeside or walk along the Fewa Lake shores. In the evening you will meet your team for the trekking who will explain the plans and the packing list for the coming days.
Your adventure begins with an early morning drive along the Kali Gandaki Gorge—the deepest in the world! You will get to observe the massive cliffs and glimpses of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri until you reach Jomsom, a windswept town with a wild frontier feel. In the evening, take a short walk around the town and get some sips of local apple brandy, and soak in the mountain vistas.
Today begins our real adventure! After the breakfast, we will start our climb towards Windy Pass - One of the finest view points in Mustang. The Approx. 2 hours of hike leads us to the top and we will start or descend to Phalyak and then walk to Kagbeni, an ancient village straight out of a medieval Tibetan tale. Winding alleys, prayer wheels, and the dramatic backdrop of Nilgiri South makes it a unique place to visit. Later in the evening, we will take time to visit the 15th-century Kag Chode Thupten Samphel Ling Monastery. We will stay the night in a Lodge.
Today is the hardest climb of all the trek. The trail leads us through the beautiful village of Dzong offering the views of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri mountains before reaching Muktinath. Muktinath is one of the holiest sites of Nepal. It is a sacred temple for both Hindu and Buddhist and is surrounded by the 108 sacred water spouts and the eternal flame burning beside a natural spring. The views of Dhaulagiri at sunset? It's truely magical.
After the hearty breakfast at the hotel, we will take time to explore the serenity of Muktinath’s temples before heading to Lupra village. Lupra is a small village located on the bank of Panda Khola forming a deep basin. This hidden gem offers a closer encounter to the traditional Tibetan Bon religion. Overnight stay will be in a tea house.
Today, we will follow the kaligandaki riverbed to Marpha, a postcard like village of whitewashed houses, narrow flagstone streets, and—most importantly—apple orchards! We will explore the village and the monastery and in the evening, we will spare some time to taste fresh cider, apple pie, and the local Marpha brandy. The Marpha village always spreads the smells of fruit and incense in the air.
Today, our walk will be gentle but longer. We will be trekking along the Kaligandaki River passing through the Tibetan Refugee Camp and several beautiful villages like Tukuche, Kobang and Kokhethanti accompained by the aroma of pine forest before reaching Kalopani. Today's hike will unveil incredible views of Dhaulagiri and Tukuche peak aligned with the Dhaulagiri Icefall. We will stay the night in a Lodge in Kalopani.
We will wake up early morning to capture the first rays of the sun striking the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains in our cameras. After we are done with the stunning views, we will have our breakfast and start our hike through the lush pine forest to the sub-tropical region of tatopani, where we will enjoy a natural hot-spring bath in the evening to relax our sore muscles. Today's hike will be a mix of tarmac road and hiking trails, however, we will try to skip the road as much as possible by walking on the other side of Kaligandaki River. It is just a reminder, you will be walking through the deepest Gorge of the world formed in between the two above 8000m mountains, the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri along with biggest water fall of the region-The Rupse.
It is the final day of our adventure! We have an early breakfast, pack our things and drive in a private vehicle to Pokhara, Lakeside. Along the way, we will take some time to visit the places of interest like the Second highest Bungee jumping in the world at Kusma, the highest sespended bridge and many more before concluding the day in Lakeside.
